The Fats You WANT To Eat

Many types of fats exist, especially when it comes to cooking oils.  There are some that are actually good for you.  I put together a list for you of the good ones and what their health benefits are.  Enjoy!

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  • A monounsaturated Omega 9 fatty acid
  • Contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties

Avocado Oil

  • A monounsaturated Omega 9 fatty acid
  • Enhances absorption of nutrients
  • Contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties

Coconut Oil

  • The fat in coconut is a saturated fat called Multi-Chain Triglyceride (MCT).  This goes directly to the liver to be metabolized, meaning super-rapid metabolism
  • Coconut oil can actually assist with weight loss due to the rapid metabolism of MCT.
  • Decreases inflammation and reduces pain
  • This also includes MCT oil or MCT powder

Duck Fat

  • Contains monounsaturated fats
  • High in antioxidants
  • Strengthens the immune system

Ghee

  • Packed with fat-soluble vitamins
  • Lactose and casein free
  • Contains conjugated linoleic acid, which has been found to be effective in reducing body fat, preventing cancer formation, alleviating inflammation, and lowering blood pressure.
  • Contains butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid that plays a role in gut health as well as fights off inflammation.

Naturally, the foods the oils are created from contain the healthy fats.  Therefore, consuming olives, avocadoes, and/or coconut is also beneficial when talking about healthy fats.
